WEEE
Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (“WEEE”) regulations mandate the treatment, recovery and recycling of electric and electronic equipment (EEE), and the amount of WEEE going to landfill.
WEEE legislation is developing globally as the amount of WEEE increases around the world. NEC Europe Ltd and its undertakings (“NEC Europe”) monitors these developments and complies with national regulations as applicable.
For all its products placed on the European market, NEC Europe meets the requirements of the European Union (“EU”) WEEE Directive.
In the EU, new Electrical and electronic products are identified with the crossed out wheelie-bin symbol and should not be mixed with general household waste.
Compliance requirements are triggered when producers (i.e. manufacturer, importer, distributor, retailer etc.) puts EEE on national markets for the first time.
Our core WEEE approach*
- We register with a compliance scheme or with an appropriate agency.
- We report all new EEE put on the market by category, to the relevant national authority or register or clearing house etc. at a specified frequency.
- We identify product as WEEE by the use of the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. This symbol may also be present on the packaging and / or any product leaflets.
- We provide information about the preparation for reuse and environmentally sound treatment to Recyclers upon request .
- We are aware of the regulatory requirements to finance the cost for the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of WEEE, and we advise our customers/end-users of the process that we have implemented to comply with this obligation as appropriate.
